It has been reported that former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren has died on April 8, aged 64. Mclaren had been suffering from cancer for quote some time, when things took a turn for the worse yesterday. McLaren was most notorious not only for being the manager of the British punk rock band the Sex Pistols, but also for his controversial publicity stunts. He was a leading figure in punk rock, with some saying he founded it in Britain. Music journalist Jon Savage claimed, “without Malcolm McLaren there would not have been any British punk.” McLaren also had a successful recording career as an artist himself, and managed several other bands including the New York Dolls.

It has been confirmed by Rolling Stone that Mark Linkous, best known for his work with his band Sparklehorse, has committed suicide. Linkous had been creating music with the band since 1995, and has since collaborated with artists such as Dangermouse on other projects. His troubled past was often a source for musical inspiration, particularly after an incident on tour in 1996 when he overdosed and was technically dead for several minutes. Linkous will no doubt be missed by the music community.

RIP Doug Fieger

Doug Fieger, frontman for newwave band the Knack died of cancer on Sunday. Fieger has been battling cancer for six years and had undergone surgery to remove two tumors from his brain. He was 57 years old.

RIP Jay Reatard

It has been confimed that the Memphis based musician was found dead in his home on Tuesday morning. Born Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr, Reatard was a prominent garage rock musician and his most recent album ‘Watch Me Fall’ was released last year to critical acclaim. He was 29.

His previous record label, Goner Records, have released the following statement: “It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public.”

And his currently label, Matador also expressed their condolences:  “We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.”
